Strawberry Margarita
I don’t think there’s anything in life more satisfying or relaxing than laying on the beach, or by the pool, with a strawberry margarita in hand. These deliciously sweet, fruity margaritas were made for those hot days in the sun when you need something refreshing that still packs quite a punch with reposado tequila!
With that being said, I’ve certainly ordered strawberry margaritas before that just didn’t quite hit the spot. Too often, these summery margaritas are full of artificial sweeteners and syrups that just taste fake. When I enjoy a strawberry margarita, or really any cocktail, I want it to taste deliciously fresh.
That’s just one of the many reasons this strawberry margarita recipe truly is the best! What sweetens this drink, besides the ripe strawberries, is agave nectar. If you’ve never had it before, you’re in for a real treat. Agave nectar is a natural sweetener that perfectly mixes and compliments the other ingredients in this easy margarita recipe.
Strawberry Margarita Ingredients
So, what’s in a strawberry margarita? With this recipe, nothing but all-natural, sweet, and powerful ingredients!
- Strawberries – Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best results! The juices in fresh berries are perfect for creating the best fruity flavor in these margaritas. Berries are always ripest in the spring and summer months, so be sure to get some at the store while they’re still fresh!
- Reposado Tequila – This golden tequila is famous for it’s smooth taste, which is why I love using it in these margaritas. It truly creates a smooth, fruity cocktail without tasting too strong. While you can certainly use another type of tequila, I highly recommend using reposado tequila for an unforgettably tasty margarita.
- Cointreau or Triple Sec – This extra splash of liqueur doesn’t just add more alcohol content to the drink, but it also adds an additional fruity flavor that goes very well with the fresh berries.
- Lime Juice – As always, use fresh lime juice, not the store-bought juice from concentrate! Not only are the results undeniably better because of the fresh flavor, but this will also keep any preservatives or additives out of your drink.
- Agave Nectar – To keep everything fresh, I recommend using an organic agave nectar like the one I have pictured to sweeten the margaritas. You should be able to find it at most grocery stores!
Can I Use Frozen Strawberries?
While fresh strawberries will give you the best, juicy, and bright flavor, you can definitely use frozen. Frozen strawberries will work especially well for frozen margarita, and you’ll need to add much less ice to the blender.
What is reposado tequila?
“Reposado” means “rested” in Spanish, which indicates that this type of tequila is rested anywhere from two months to a year before being bottled. The golden color of this tequila comes from the barrels where it’s rested and it also takes in that flavor.
With reposado tequila, you get a smoother finish, hints of vanilla, and toasty, earthy notes from the barrel. Reposado tequila gives you the best of both worlds: the complexity of aged tequila and the yummy flavor of young silver tequila.
How to Make Strawberry Margaritas
Start off by washing the strawberries and removing the leafy stems. Then, toss all the fresh berries into your blender!
Once the berries are in the blender, add all of the other ingredients.
Once all of the ingredients are in the blender (or food processor), blend everything together until the margarita is completely smooth. You don’t want any chunks.
Rim the glasses with either salt or sugar, depending on whichever one you’d prefer! It can be hard to choose – the sugar adds another level of sweetness that goes perfectly with the strawberries and agave nectar, but the salt balances the sweetness with a slight tang. Salt also gives that classic salty, tangy, and sweet margarita combination.
Whichever you choose, just be sure to rub the rim of the glass with a slice of lime first!
Once rimmed, add some ice to the glasses, then pour in the margaritas, and enjoy!
How To Make Them Frozen?
It’s very easy to make your Strawberry Margaritas frozen! While I love these margaritas on the rocks, they’re also delicious and quite refreshing when frozen.
Just add ice to the blender instead of in the cup! Simply add 4-5 cups of ice to the blender with the other ingredients.
Just note, this recipe will almost double the the amount of servings for frozen margaritas because if ice!
Can I try other flavors?
Yes! One thing I really love about cocktails is how much fun you can have experimenting with different flavors. Here are just a few ideas of how you can shake things up –
- Instead of strawberries, try any other berry of your choice. Or, blend them in with the strawberries into berry strawberry margarita!
- Make this cocktail spicy with a fresh jalapeño.
- For a fun, tropical twist, combine strawberry and watermelon, or strawberry and mango.
- If you don’t want to blend it, you could also just muddle it.
- If you prefer rum over tequila, substitute the tequila for your favorite rum and turn this margarita in to a daiquiri!
Chill out this summer with more refreshing, fruity cocktails!
