Nutella Hot Chocolate spiked is sweet, smooth dessert cocktail to be the perfect end to any day. This spiked hot chocolate is made with four easy ingredients: milk, Nutella, hazelnut liqueur and coffee liqueurs, and a splash of vanilla extract if you wish.

This Nutella Hot Cocoa is heaven-sent. It doesn’t just warm your heart with hot nutty/chocolaty deliciousness, it warms you with the addition of Kahlua and Frangelico. Dessert and cocktail in one mug, that is my favorite way to end a busy day.

There are only two ingredients in this hot chocolate if you make it without the liqueurs and with them, it’s only four! I like to add a little touch of pure vanilla extract to enhance the aroma and flavors of the drink, but that is totally optional.

Nutella is a chocolate-hazelnut spread that is a favorite for so many kids and adults, so you know this hot chocolate will be a hit. I’ve been enjoying Nutella since I was a kid and love to incorporate it into many dessert recipes like no-bake Nutella cheesecake, Nutella cookies, and more.

Frangelico is a hazelnut liqueur and it plays right into the flavor of Nutella, while coffee liqueur adds a rich, coffee hint to the cocoa. You can choose to use non-fat milk to keep it lighter or use low-fat or whole milk to make it more rich and creamy.

How To Make Nutella Hot Chocolate

Adding nutella to pot of milk with a spoon and with a whisk sitting in the pot.
  • Heat up milk in a sauce pot over medium-low heat. Don’t let it simmer!
  • Whisk in Nutella until it’s all smooth and incorporated. Let it heat through but not simmer and never boil!

  • Once hot, take off heat and stir in Kahlua and Frangelico. If using, stir in vanilla extract as well.
  • Divide hot chocolate among mugs and top off with marshmallows.
  • If you want to do a Nutella drizzle on top of hot chocolate: add some Nutella into a piping bag and cut off the tip, leaving a small hole. Drizzle some Nutella over the marshmallows.
