I can’t stop with the margaritas!
Okay, yes, that is my go-to cocktail to order when we go out, but it’s all I’ve been making at home. I don’t know if it’s the mental state of the upcoming Cinco de Mayo, or just a temporary obsession, but it is real. Different margarita recipes are just popping up in my head and I can’t make them fast enough.
I’ve actually looked up the most popular margarita recipes, to see which margaritas people prefer. Personally, I like a classic, top shelf margarita on the rocks with salt. When I was a bartender, my margaritas were in high demand. I had people come in specially on my shifts for my margaritas. I don’t blame them, those bad boys we fantastic! Two of the oldest bartenders taught me and they were awesome bartenders. One of them was even featured in a local magazine. So there were a couple of tricks that really put the margarita over the top but I think I’ll save those for the next time, when I actually share my classic margarita recipe. I haven’t shared it yet because there are SO many recipes for a classic margarita out there, I just keep thinking, “why bother?”
So, my little search revealed that, other than a classic margarita, people really enjoy spicy margaritas. I got to thinking and realized that I haven’t actually tried a spicy margarita. “Oh, the intrigue!”
Well, someone had just bought a big bag of jalapeno peppers because the stupid store didn’t have individual peppers in stock. Who doesn’t have individual jalapeno peppers in stock? …Okay, I’m going off on a rant….pull back.
Anyway, I had a little too much jalapeno peppers and I’ve been trying to use them up. This was a perfect opportunity to try out a spicy margarita. But, I didn’t’ want to just make is spicy, or cool and spicy, like the cucumber margarita. Spicy and sweet seemed like the best combination. And, apparently, I wasn’t done coming up with crazy combination because I decided to make it a margatini. Yeap, a “margatini!” A martini that is inspired by a margarita. Or, you can call it a margarita neat. That is what it is, a perfectly balanced, sweet and spicy margarita that is “neat.”
