Teriyaki sauce is a great sauce to make a big batch of and keep in the fridge for easy dinners during the week. It’s great because:

  • It’s so easy to make, takes about 10 minutes.
  • You can use it to make chicken teriyaki, salmon, rice bowls, on meatballs, to toss chicken wings, or in shrimp, or just stir-fried veggies.
  • This homemade sauce tastes so much better than any store-bought teriyaki I’ve ever tried, and has no extra preservatives or additives
  • I love how easy it is to make gluten free.

How To Make Teriyaki Sauce Gluten Free?

  • Soy sauce is the only ingredient in this recipe that contains gluten. Substitute regular low sodium soy sauce for a gluten free soy sauce and that’s all. Gluten free soy sauce is widely available in most grocery stores.
  • If you gluten free soy sauce is not available, use tamari instead.

Storing Instructions

  • Storing: best way to store homemade Teriyaki Sauce is in a glass jar with an air-tight lid. Store it in the refrigerator for up to a week
  • To use some of the sauce: make sure to pour some out instead of scooping it with the spoon. This will ensure that bacteria is not introduced to the sauce by the spoon and extend the shelf life.
  • Freezing: to freeze, simply pour cooled teriyaki sauce into a freezer zip-top bag (or several smaller portion bags), get the air out, seal, label and freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Thawing: Make sure to slow-thaw the frozen sauce in the refrigerator.

How to Use Teriyaki Sauce?

  • Main dish sauce: you can add this sauce while cooking chicken, shrimp, or veggies. Add it right to the pan when the meat and veggies are almost done cooking.
  • Marinade: You can use this recipe as a marinade even before cooking the sauce. Or, you can use already cooked teriyaki sauce as a marinade.
  • Glaze: you can glaze grilled meats with this sauce. It will work well with baked meats as well.
  • Wing sauce: this teriyaki sauce is excellent as a wing sauce. Simply toss cooked wings with it and serve.
