dr pepper floats with ice cream and a lime

Have you experienced the taste of a Dirty Dr. Pepper yet?

Out here in Utah, dirty drinks have become very popular in the last little while.  The gist of it is, you can make a Utah version of a Dirty Drink with your favorite kind of soda.  Mine happens to be Dr. Pepper… with ice cream!

Behold, the Dirty Dr. Pepper Float!

To the Dr. Pepper haters:  you have got to try this!

But, if for some really teeny, tiny, small chance Dr. Pepper doesn’t really float your boat (or ice cream, in this matter), use your favorite soda.

Making this Dirty Dr. Pepper Float is a breeze to make!  But, it’s more fun to eat!

Dirty Dr. Pepper Float
(serves two)
1 pint coconut ice cream
2 (12 ounce) cans Dr. Pepper (or your favorite soda)
1 lime, sliced in half
1/4 cup shredded coconut, toasted

Fill each glass half of soda.  Squeeze the juice of each half lime into each glass of soda.  Scoop ice cream into soda and lime juice.  Finish with more soda and one more scoop of ice cream on top.  Sprinkle toasted coconut.

To toast shredded coconut:  Place coconut in a small sauce pan on medium heat.  Stir frequently, until golden brown.

Summer is coming upon us, and ice cream gets a lot more attention than it does in the winter.  Which, ice cream is definitely a year round food adventure for me.  Eating ice cream in front of the fireplace during a cold snowy day is the best!  But, ice cream floats remind me of hanging outside and enjoying the sunshine– in the heat.

Having a Dirty Dr. Pepper Float is one of my very favorite things to share with my family after a hot day on the lake.

You are going to love this float, too!
