How are your holidays going?
As much as I love holiday season, I’m glad that it’s almost over. January always feels like calm after the storm and I can’t wait for the calm. Just one more holiday to go. It’s almost New Year’s! How do you celebrate New Year’s?
New Year’s used to be the biggest holiday of the year for me. Actually, it still is in my mind just haven’t felt that way in reality since little man was born. (Can’t stay up all night and party with a toddler, especially one that likes to wake up at 630 am.) Did you know that New Year’s is the biggest holiday for Russians? Christmas is not actually celebrated on December 25th in Russia but celebrated on January 7th and it is purely a religious holiday. We still have the decorating of the tree, decorating the house, presents and Santa-like holiday figure but it is all done for New Year’s.
Growing up, I couldn’t wait for my grandfather to get home a week before New Year’s so we could decorate the tree and the apartment. It was always the same decorations and ornaments that have been used for years, and I remember them all. After the tree was decorated and lit, I could sit under it for hours and just stare. On many occasions, my grandmother found me sleeping under the tree. I still do that. I still sit and stare at it for hours and it always reminds me of my grandparent’s house.
New Year’s night is always a huge party that goes on all night. People actually take a nap during the day so they can stay up partying until the morning. There is always lots of food and champagne. Huge table full of food actually that takes up to two days to prepare and you invite pretty much everyone you know. Party, party, party!
So if you are planning any New Year’s parties, big or small, this Cheesy Jalapeno Dip will be perfect.
