Two recipes in one! Make some delicious candied lemon peels and lemon simple syrup at the same time. You can snack on the lemon peels or use it to decorate cakes. Possibilities for lemon simple syrup are also endless. Use it in your favorite cocktails and drinks!

I love making these candied peels and I’ve also made them in orange and lime. Many times, they don’t make it onto the dessert because they are to tasty, I just nibble on them all day.

This recipe is awesome because it’s two recipes in one. While making these candied peels, you are also making infused simple syrup. This syrup should definitely be saved and used in tea, iced tea, cocktails and even pancakes. I used it in pancakes this morning and it was delicious!

Candied Lemon Slices

Ingredients

  • 2 lemons
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 tbs extra fine sugar for coating

Instructions

  • Using a vegetable peeler, peel the skin off the lemon, trying not to get the white part. Slice the peels into thinner strips.
  • Add the peels into the small pot and cover it with water. Bring it to boil and boil for about 30 second. Drain the peels and rinse with cold water. Repeat two more times.
  • Combine 1 cups of water and 1 cup of sugar in a small pot. Heat up on medium heat and stir until the sugar is melted. Add the peels and bring the water to boil. Lower the heat to medium-low and cook for about an hour.
  • Drain off the lemon simple syrup into a container and save it. Toss the peels in fine sugar and lay them out to dry.

    If I’m canning the syrup for gifts, could I leave a curl of candied peel in it? And I’m assuming this would be ok to can, yes?

      I wouldn’t candy the peel, I would just put the plan peel in the syrup for canning.

  2. Citrus Rinds are excellent additions to so many culinary outcomes. I make a lot of candied rinds, particularly orange. This rind is particularly tempting when the thin candied strips are dipped in dark chocolate about 1/2 to 2/3 coverage, or chopped and added to dark chocolate melted for mold, dips, or any other way you’d use it.Try it blended into unsweetened bakers chocolate you would use in a recipe. I have gotten raves over my orange chocolate cheesecake, for instance. And, you can make so many orange/chocolate treats and party tidbits by adding some to Chocolate truffle balls are really special and i was asked to bring some of the chocolate orange rum truffles i’b brought to another party several years ago. They were a memorable treat to the hostess. As with any handmade treat, Orange (or any citrus) infused vodka makes a lovely gift to someone who enjoys cocktails or plans to serve them.
    Many years ago, I gave a bottle of orange infused vodka and one of raspberry-lime infused Tequila to a friend who was opening a tavern located literally in the woods. She loved it, and served a shot to a few folks she hoped to cultivate as “regulars”. She uses my original recipe in many concoctions these days, and her regulars bring friends and area vacationers to her secret “hideaway” tavern. However, local laws were changed to prohibit giving away alcohol to customers, so she has nightly specials of one shot up, or added to any cocktail for whatever the tax would be due for a regularly price bottom shelf shot. Its really good!
