Pomegranate Champagne Punch
This festive cocktail is perfect for holiday parties of all sorts, and also carries well over into New Years Eve celebrations! Whether you’re popping open a bottle of bubbly to sing Christmas carols or to ring in the new year, you’ll be so glad you mixed your favorite champagne with all of these simple, sweet, and wonderfully fruity ingredients. After trying this sparkling punch, you may never want a plain glass of champagne again.
Punch is always one of my favorite large batch cocktails to whip up, and this recipe is currently sitting at the top of my fairly long list of beloved punch recipes. At a party, you don’t want to keep stopping conversations and fun times to continuously shake up individual cocktails. Instead, enjoy your Christmas or New Years Eve celebrations by making enough delicious pomegranate champagne punch to serve approximately 10-15 people at a time!
If you do end up having to make a second or third batch of this festive punch, no worries. It’s incredibly easy to do and will only take about five minutes of your precious party time! Truth be told, you’ll likely find yourself making an additional batch at least once during your party, depending on how many people are in attendance. Once your party guests taste this sparkling, sweet, and delightfully fresh pomegranate champagne punch, they’ll likely enjoy more than just one glass.
Ingredients for This Champagne Punch
- St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur – When it comes to liqueurs, be a bit picky. Even if you can’t get your hands on a bottle of St. Germain, try to find an elderflower liqueur that has reputable reviews.
- Pomegranate Juice – Did you know that pomegranate juice is loaded with antioxidants and plenty of other health benefits? So, technically, this cocktail’s not entirely bad for you!
- Lime Juice – When it comes to lime juice, make sure you’re freshly squeezing it yourself. Bottled lime juice is full of artificial flavors and preservatives that will create an undesirable taste in the cocktail.
- Simple Syrup – To make your own simple syrup, you just need to combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of hot water and stir until dissolved. You can keep it fresh by storing it in an airtight container in your refrigerator, where it’ll stay good for about 3 weeks.
- Brut Champagne – Similarly to the elderflower liqueur, be a bit picky when choosing your champagne. A cheap bottle won’t yield the best results. Additionally, brut champagne works best as it’s a bit dry and not too sweet. Sweet champagne will make this cocktail far too sugary, as the majority of sweetness and flavor comes from the other ingredients.
- Club Soda – If you can’t find any, seltzer will also do the trick.
- Toppings – These are optional, but recommended as they add a lovely flair to the drink! Sliced limes, naval oranges, or fresh pomegranate seeds are all great garnishes.
Champagne Substitutions
For the best balance of flavor, use brut champagne. Brut champagne is slightly less sweet than extra dry champagne, and much less sweet than dry champagne. You can use extra dry champagne or prosecco instead, if needed.
If you’re not a fan of bubbly cocktails, you can make this punch without champagne. Instead of champagne, use a dry white wine like Chablis or chardonnay. They will still provide a great base for the drink and will blend well with the other ingredients! Just make sure you don’t use a sweet white wine that will make the punch too sugary, like Moscato or even a Riesling.
How much of this cocktail should I make?
You can estimate a single serving of this champagne punch to be 4-6 oz. This recipe makes 63 oz., which will give you 10-15 servings of the cocktail. Knowing this, you can estimate how much punch you will need based on the amount of people that will be at your event, and if you’re serving other drinks.
How to Make Pomegranate Champagne Punch
Start off by picking a cute punch bowl! Then, fill that bowl with elderflower liqueur, pomegranate juice, lime juice, and simple syrup. Give it a nice stir.
Slowly pour in the club soda, followed by the champagne. It’s important to do so slowly so the bubbles don’t go too wild!
Give the punch one gentle, final stir, then top it off with oranges and pomegranate seeds as desired. Keep in mind that if you stir it too much after the champagne has been added, the punch may go flat.
