Ingredients for White Sangria
The ingredients for this easy wine cocktail are freshest in the hot and sunny summertime months! Enjoy how ripe these juicy fruits are while you still can.
- White Wine – Choose fruity and mildly sweet white wines like Riesling, Pinot Grigio, or Sauvignon Blanc. Try to stay away from wines that are too sour, too dry, and too sweet. Avoid wines like Moscato.
- Cointreau or Triple Sec – The addition of this aromatic, orange flavored liqueur is what really makes this fruity sangria stand out. If you have any left over, be sure to use it deliciously in another cocktail like a Classic Sidecar!
- Naval Orange – Double check that the orange is ripe by giving it a gentle squeeze. It should be firm with a slight give, and have no obviously soft spots. It should also be a decently large, heavy orange.
- Lime – To balance out the sweetness and give it more aroma, lime works great. (See variations below if needed.)
- Apple – This is another tangy ingredient that really makes your mouth water with each delicious sip! Use a vibrant green Granny Smith apple to enhance the sour flavors of the sangria without overpowering the sweeter ingredients. (See variations below if needed.)
- Strawberries – Run, don’t walk to your local grocery store to get fresh, ripe, and juicy strawberries! The sweetness these little red berries give to the whole sangria is truly unbeatable. (See variations below if needed.)
- Mango – Mangoes provide an additional touch of sweetness, while also giving this wine cocktail a tropical summertime flare. (See variations below if needed.)
- Soda – Use a lemon lime soda like Sprite (or a generic option) to give this cocktail a final sweet flavor, and a fun hint of carbonated bubbles!
How to Make White Sangria
Start by preparing the fruit! Slice and chop the fruit however you’d like but remove the core and pits.
Pour in the wine and the liqueur and give it a stir. Then, tightly cover the pitcher with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator. Allow the pitcher to cool in the fridge for at least 2 hours, but it can stay in there for up to 24 if you’d like!
Right before serving the sangria, top it off with cold lemon lime soda. That way, the bubbles are fresh and tasty!
Give the pitcher a final, gentle stir, then pour the sangria into glasses, and enjoy! (Note: Use a serving spoon to first scoop out the fruit into each glass, and then pour the sangria over it.)
Variations to Try
- When it comes of apples, green apples provide fruity flavor but not too much sweetness. If you wish to add a little more sweetness, you can use sweeter apples like honeycrisp or gala. Mcintosh is a very aromatic variety as well.
- If you prefer, use lemon instead of lime. Mayer lemons have great aroma and flavor.
- Make it the sangria tropical by using mangoes, pineapples, papaya, guava, and passion fruit.
- If you love berries, use all of your favorite berries like blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries!
Tips for the Best Sangria:
- Use the right wine that is not too dry, and not too sweet.
- Pick the ripest fruit, because it will be at its sweetest and provide the most juice.
- Prepare ahead of time and let it stand for at least two hours to let the fruit really infuse the wine with flavor. Remember, you can make a pitcher of white sangria a full day ahead.
- When pouring the glasses of sangria, you might want to scoop some fruit into the glasses as well, so everyone gets a lovely amount of fruit with their wine cocktail!
