I love mojitos of all kinds, but I think this homemade strawberry mojito might just be my favorite. It’s sweet, but not too sweet, and has the perfect amount of fresh minty strawberry flavor! Plus, since it’s made in the comfort of my own kitchen, I can decide exactly how much of each ingredient I want in my drink.
Here’s the deal. While I think the recipe is pretty perfect the way it is, you may want more or less simple syrup, rum, etc. That’s the beauty of a homemade cocktail! You can sip and alter it as needed without having to make any special requests to a bartender. The best part? You can make it a double for no extra charge!
If you live in a warmer climate like I do (the sunshine state is very true to its name), you’ll love this strawberry mojito during pretty much all seasons. It’s perfect for sipping on when the sun’s out! With that being said, it’s pretty great to enjoy year-round at birthday parties, backyard barbecues, and all other occasions. Cheers!
Ingredients in Strawberry Mojito
Mint Leaves – Spearmint is best in mojitos because it’s not as strong and powerful as peppermint. If you have to use peppermint, use about half the amount because it’s so strong. Some mint packaging doesn’t specify what type of mint it is, in that case use the normal amount per recipe.
Simple Syrup – I highly recommend simple syrup over granulated sugar. It’s easy to make with 1:1 sugar and hot water , stir to dissolve, and store in a closed jar, in the refrigerator.
Lime Juice – For the very best fresh flavor, use freshly squeezed lime juice only. Bottled lime juice won’t create the same fresh acidic flavor.
Strawberries – It’s best to use fresh strawberries but you can use frozen strawberries if you’d like. Make sure they’re totally thawed prior to using.
Rum – White rum should always be used in mojitos.
Club Soda – You can also use seltzer water if preferred.

Recipe FAQs
You will need a flat end muddler to muddle mint. When working with herbs, choose a muddler without ridges and one that is not lacquered. If you don’t have a muddler, use a small wooden spoon or a wooden utensil handle with a flat end.
White rum is the best alcohol to use for mojitos of all kinds. It has the best flavor. However, vodka may also be used in a pinch if that’s what you have on hand.
You want mint to be slightly bruised to release the sweet minty flavor. What you don’t want is to mash it to the pulp. The key is to gently press the mint leaves only about 3 or 4 times with a flat ended muddler (or wooden spoon) to release the mint flavor.
While the best flavor does come from fresh strawberries and that is always my first choice, you can technically use frozen strawberries. Make sure to thaw them completely and discard the excess liquid.
How to Make a Virgin Mojito
It’s so easy! Mojito is one of the best cocktail to actually serve a virgin and a boozy versions of at the parties. There are so many flavors that come from non-alcoholic ingredients like lime juice, simple syrup, and mint. So taking out the rum, keeps most of the delicious mojito flavors.
So to make mojitos virgin, simply omit the rum. Don’t add too much extra club soda though because that will dilute the other flavors.

I love a strawberry Mojito! I make them all the time but actually leave out any sweetners, using only the strawberries to sweeten 😍
